Provyn Prep · Docker and Kubernetes competency
Images & workloads in the Docker and Kubernetes assessment
Images & workloads is one of the areas a Provyn Docker and Kubernetes credential scores separately, so a recruiter can see it on its own rather than averaged into one number. This guide explains what it covers, how it is tested and what to practice.
What it covers
Building container images with Dockerfiles, image layers and size, and running workloads as pods and controllers.
Topics in the practice set for this area
- containers
- Dockerfile
- Dockerfile / images
- images
- K8s pods
- K8s workloads
How it is tested
In the timed assessment, questions in this area use these formats: code you write, multiple choice, short answer. Each attempt draws its own set of questions, and this area gets its own sub-score on the credential when the attempt includes enough questions from it. The assessment questions themselves are never published; the practice set below is written separately for study.
What to practice
- Turn a single-stage Dockerfile into a multi-stage build and compare image sizes.
- Order Dockerfile instructions so the layer cache is reused on code changes.
- Choose between a Deployment, a StatefulSet, a DaemonSet and a Job for four example services.
Try a practice question
From the free practice set (9 questions in this area). Answers and explanations are in the practice set.
- A Docker image is to a container as:
- `COPY` vs `ADD` in a Dockerfile — `ADD` additionally:
- `docker exec` runs a command:
Practice before the real thing
Both are free and use practice questions only, never questions from the real assessment.
