Data & storage in the AWS Fundamentals assessment
Data & storage is one of the areas a Provyn AWS Fundamentals credential scores separately, so a recruiter can see it on its own rather than averaged into one number. This guide explains what it covers, how it is tested and what to practice.
What it covers
Object, block and file storage, managed databases, and protecting stored data with encryption and access controls.
Topics in the practice set for this area
- storage
- databases
- storage / security
How it is tested
In the timed assessment, questions in this area use these formats: matching, multiple choice, put the steps in order, short answer. Each attempt draws its own set of questions, and this area gets its own sub-score on the credential when the attempt includes enough questions from it. The assessment questions themselves are never published; the practice set below is written separately for study.
What to practice
- Compare object storage, block storage and a managed database for three example datasets.
- Lock down a storage bucket so nothing in it is public, then verify it.
- Explain the backup and failover options of a managed relational database.
Try a practice question
From the free practice set (6 questions in this area). Answers and explanations are in the practice set.
- Which AWS service is object storage?
- A job overwrites report.csv in an S3 bucket. As soon as the PUT returns 200, another service GETs the same key. What does it receive?
- Which service is the AWS-native managed NoSQL?
Practice before the real thing
Both are free and use practice questions only, never questions from the real assessment.
